Where to Stay in Lekki Phase 1
A first-timer's guide to the area, getting around, and choosing a shortlet that actually delivers.
Lekki Phase 1 is one of Lagos's most sought-after neighbourhoods — a gated, well-planned stretch on the Lekki Peninsula that packs galleries, beaches, restaurants, and shopping into a few square kilometres. It's close enough to Victoria Island and Ikoyi for business, but calmer and greener, which is exactly why it's become the default base for visitors who want a comfortable, central stay.
How the area is laid out
The spine of the neighbourhood is Admiralty Way, lined with supermarkets, banks, pharmacies, and casual restaurants — handy for a self-catered stay. Quieter residential estates branch off it (Edgewater Estate, where The Cove sits, is one of them), offering security and calm a short drive from the action. Nike Art Gallery, Lekki's landmark, anchors the eastern end.
Getting around
Most visitors use ride-hailing (Bolt and Uber both run reliably here) — it's the simplest way to reach Victoria Island, the beaches, or the airport. Traffic on the Lekki–Epe Expressway peaks at rush hour, so plan airport runs with a buffer. Within Lekki Phase 1 itself, many of the best spots are a short hop or even walkable.
What to look for in a shortlet
Three things separate a good Lagos shortlet from a stressful one:
- 24/7 power.Lagos grid power is intermittent. Confirm the place runs on inverter and/or generator backup so you're never left in the dark — this is the single most important question to ask.
- Water and WiFi.Reliable running water and fast, stable internet are non-negotiable for a comfortable stay (and essential if you're working remotely).
- Security and location. A gated estate with controlled access gives real peace of mind. A central location saves you hours in traffic over a week-long stay.
When to visit
Lagos is warm year-round. The drier months (roughly November to March) are the most popular — December especially, when the city comes alive with events. Book early for that window, as the best stays fill fast. The rainy season (April to October) is quieter and a good time for value.
